I love old signs (as anyone who had traveled with me knows), but I have sort of mixed feelings about them being used for decor. Salvaging some old bit of vernacular craftsmanship to fill up a loft was once an exciting notion, but I think the chintzy "antique letters" peddled by Pottery Barn or Anthropology have somewhat cheapened the effect.
